Fan Throated Lizard(Sitana)
Sitana (Sitana ponticeriana)is a species of lizard found in South India,This lizards are mostly found in the open grounds  in dry and scrub forests .Some times they shoot their Gular appendage  like the one shown below,which catches our eyes.This was documented in Vaigai Forest College,Near To Vaigai Dam.A different species is found in North India which can be differentiated by its Gular appendage colors

Another Face of Madurai- The Winged Friends

Madurai-The name of the city in Tamilnadu , India, Reminds us of Temples,Festivals,Traditional Non Veg Restaurants, Jasmine Flowers, Idlis(Steamed Rice Cakes) with sambar and chilly and mint chatnis, the Pandiyan kings,Nayakkar Kings,The Yanai Malai, Thiruparangundram ,Pasumalai,Alagar Kovil Etc

But there is also another face to Madurai the  rich Culture which Prevails here ,the people here are Rough by looks but help full,generous and kindhearted by nature.The city's surroundings are full of  Agricultural lands which is filled with green and obviously which attracts lots of winged friends.

Find below the the few birds that are found and sited around Madurai and which adds colors the city

Painted Stork (Mycteria leucocephala) which is a large wandering bird


The colourfull spot billed duck(Anas poecilorhyncha) sighted


The Indian Darter((Anhinga melanogaster ), Called as the snake bird

Little Cormorant((Phalacrocorax niger)
It is a resident species in most of tropical south Asia, commonly found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam,The breeding season of the Little Cormorant falls between May and October

Blue-tailed Bee-eater, (Merops philippinus)  is a Near passerine  bird
It predominantly eats insects, especially bees, wasps and hornets, which are caught in the air .It is beautifully colored and very active bird


The Indian Roller (Coracias benghalensis), also called the Blue Jay in former times is a member of the roller  family of birds.They are very commonly seen perched along roadside trees and wires and are commonly seen in open grassland and scrub forest habitats



Kingfishers are a group of small to medium sized brightly coloured Birds in the order Coraciformes
the below mentioned photo shows a Common Kingfisher, Alcedo atthis.It feeds mainly on fish, caught by diving, and has special visual adaptions to enable it to see prey under water

The above mentioned birds are only the sample of the winged friends found around us, there are a lot of friends  lets give the some space and respect them.lets bring back the common house sparrows in to our houses to turn them in the real homes,lets continue feeding crows,lets continue growing plants in our terraces,lets continue to throw the kitchen waste(greens) without warping in polythene bags,let us show  some respect the our winged friends found around us and let our surroundings be filled with  colorfulness

Vettan Gudi Trip

This was my first venture in to bird watching,with lot of expectations and curiousness we started our journey to Vettangudy , A bird Sanctuary situated in Tamilnadu , on the way from Madurai to Thirupattur.
we started by around 8.30 AM in the morning and Reached there by 10.30 AM, When we entered the sanctuary we were disappointed but once we started proceeding inside, a beautiful Short welcomed us with Hundreds of Birds nesting on the trees Here are few photos
On the way my first photo shot was the Above Shown photo which was taken on the way to Vettangudi


Once we started entering the sanctuary the following picture welcomed us

Altogether we had an excellent escape from the concrete jungle.
